In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on January 21st, the Arab Republic of Egypt expressed its rejection of the military operations carried out by the Turkish forces against the city of Afrin in north-west Syria, which are considered as a new violation of Syria’s sovereignty. Further, the statement added that such operations undermine the ongoing endeavors to reach a political solution, as well as the efforts of counter-terrorism in Syria.

The Statement also reiterated Egypt's steadfast stance towards rejecting military solutions, as they only lead to increase the suffering of our brotherly Syrian people. Further, the statement called for involving the whole sects of the Syrian community in serious negotiations in the framework of a comprehensive and objective political process with no exclusion, while stressing on the need to preserve Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
