Immediately upon the arrival of Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry and Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Atty to Washington, D.C. on February 11, 2020 to participate in the Renaissance Dam negotiations, hosted by the United States with the participation of the World Bank, on February 12-13, 2020, a coordination meeting was held with the Egyptian negotiating team, formed of representatives from the Foreign and Water Resources Ministries, and the General Intelligence Service, as well as experts of international law, and Egyptian university professors, to consider the draft agreement on the filling and operationalization of the Renaissance Dam, in light of the outcomes of the legal committees’ negotiations held in the U.S. capital over the past two weeks, including the various proposals put forward by Ethiopia and Sudan, as well as the points of convergences and divergences in the three countries’ positions. 

Moreover, International renowned Egyptian legal experts were contacted during the coordination meeting to get their views and suggestions regarding the draft agreement, in addition to the legal working group at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Official meetings of the three countries’ Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Water Resources, and the accompanying legal and technical delegations, are expected to begin tomorrow in Washington, D.C., upon the appreciated  invitation of U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin, in order to continue negotiations around the draft agreement on the filling and operationalization of the Renaissance Dam.
