FM Shoukry receives Syrian Democratic Council delegation

Ahead of the emergency meeting of the League of Arab States'Council at the ministerial level to discuss the Turkish offensive against Syria, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received on October 12, 2019, a delegation from the Syrian Democratic Council, which included Joint Chair Riad Drar, Co-President of the Executive Authority Îlham Ahmed, and member of the General Federal Assembly Sîhanok Dîbo.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Counselor Ahmed Hafez stated that during the meeting, delegation members briefed FM Shoukry on developments in the field pertaining to the Turkish offensive against Syria. They surveyed overall critical effects and challenges, as well as, the related grievous humanitarian consequences on the ground and waves of mass displacement, in addition to the negative implications of the Turkish offensive on the path of combating Daesh terrorist organization in Syria and the region.

Counselor Hafez explained that FM Shoukry stressed to the delegation the great importance Egypt attaches to the unity of Syria, its people, and its regional integrity, which Egypt is always keen to maintain. Egypt, also, stands at the same distance from all components of the brotherly people of Syria. The Foreign Minister expressed that Egypt condemns the Turkish offensive against Syria, considers it an occupation of the territory of an Arab sister-nation, and that resisting it is considered a legitimate right in self-defense as per Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
