In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on November 5, the Arab Republic of Egypt welcomed the Riyadh Agreement, which was signed today in the Saudi capital between the legitimate Government of Yemen and the Southern Transitional Council under the auspices of the Custodian off the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abd Al -Aziz Al-Saud.
The Arab Republic of Egypt praised the Agreement, which is considered an important step towards enhancing the chances of reaching a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis by restoring the focus on the core of the Yemeni problem and committing to the references of political settlement; particularly, the Gulf Cooperation Council initiative, its executive mechanisms, the outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue, and Security Council Resolution No. 2216. The statement, also, commended the efforts exerted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates toward reaching the agreement.
The statement emphasized Egypt’s support for the Agreement which aims to achieve peace, security, and stability in Yemen, to ensure the country’s unity and territorial integrity, and to alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Yemeni people.
