On October 7, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received Norbert Röttgen, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the German Bundestag. The meeting addressed bilateral relations between Egypt and Germany.
Official MFA Spokesman Counselor Ahmed Hafez stated that FM Shoukry began the meeting by praising the development of bilateral relations during the past few years in various fields, which provides more opportunities to reinforce cooperation between the two countries on the basis of partnership and mutual interests.
Counselor Hafez added that this meeting addressed some of the developments in economic and commercial relations. FM Shoukry outlined the measures the Egyptian government has taken in the framework of implementing the structural economic reform program. He expressed that Egypt welcomes the interest and increased demand of German companies in pumping additional investments in various economic sectors in light of an improvement in the business environment. In the same context, the Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of continuing to encourage more companies to enter the Egyptian market to benefit from the promising investment opportunities in Egypt, which would reflect the special bilateral relations and the status of the German economy.
On his part, the German official commended the level of relations between Cairo and Berlin and welcomed the expansion of fields of cooperation between the two countries. Röttgen also praised Egypt’s role in the Middle East and its balanced positions as a pillar of regional security and stability. The German Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman was also interested in listening to FM Shoukry’s explanation of the most important features of Egypt’s vision toward various issues and challenges in the region, including developments in Syria, Libya, and Yemen, in addition to developments in the Gulf.
