Foreign Minister receives the UN Special Representative to Libya

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received on November 12, 2019 the United Nations Special Representative to Libya, Ghassan Salamé, to discuss the latest developments on the Libyan scene, and ways to advance the crisis-settlement track in Libya.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Counselor Ahmed Hafez stated that, during the meeting, Minister Shoukry outlined the Egyptian position determinants regarding the necessity of reaching a comprehensive political settlement in Libya in a manner that would preserve the unity and territorial integrity of sisterly Libya; support restoring the control of national state institutions; and contribute to combating terrorist organizations, making an end to the militias’ chaos, and restoring security, within the framework of a comprehensive vision to conducting the political entitlements, with a view to empowering the free will of our brotherly Libyan people in controlling its resources and capabilities.

Hafez added that the meeting also discussed means to revitalize the political track in order to settle the crisis, in addition to track of the ongoing preparations of Berlin Conference on Libya, as Salamé briefed Minister Shoukry on the latest outcomes of his contacts and efforts with the Libyan and regional parties in this regard, expressing his appreciation for Egypt’s role in making an end to the crisis and restoring security and stability in Libya.​
