 Foreign Minister Meets Ethiopian Prime Minister during his visit to Addis Ababa

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met on December 26th with the Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, as part of his current visit to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to follow up the overall bilateral relations between Egypt and Ethiopia, and preparations for the visit of Ethiopia’s Prime Minister to Egypt this January, in addition to examining progress in terms of the GERD negotiations.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid said the meeting addressed the bilateral relations and the follow-up of the implementation of the cooperation projects and proposals between the two countries in the framework of the Joint Higher Committee. In this context, the two sides stressed their keenness to preserve the progress achieved on the path of confidence building, cooperation, and serving common interests of their two countries and peoples.

The meeting also dealt with the challenges facing the path of GERD negotiations, as Shoukry briefed the Prime Minister on the results of his talks with the Ethiopian Foreign Minister, and the Egyptian initiative which was put forward in this regard, stressing the overall elements of the Egyptian position.
