In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 19th, the Arab Republic of Egypt condemned the Turkish occupation of the Syrian city of Afrin and the ensuing Turkish military operations in Afrin, northern Syria, and violations against the Syrian civilians, entailing exposure to massive displacements and grave humanitarian dangers. Egypt considered as unacceptable the continued violations of Syria’s sovereignty which further complicate the political scene as they undermine the existing political settlement efforts and exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Syria.

The statement reemphasized the Egyptian position in support of the political solution in Syria so as to preserves the unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian state and its institutions, and fulfills the aspirations of our brotherly Syrian people. It called in this regard upon all regional and international parties to carry out their role in order to ensure commitment to support the political track in resolving the crisis, and prevent further deterioration of the security and humanitarian situation.
