Ambassador of Egypt in Belgrade Amr Aljowaily, announced the launch of the "Egyptian Cultural Month in Serbia" with activities spanning all of July in celebration of the 110th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Serbia and coinciding with the National Day of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Aljowaily highlighted that the Egyptian Cultural Month, that begins today July 2nd, includes continuous activities throughout the month upto July 31st in various parts of Serbia, including the Egyptian Cinema Week which starts today, a roundtable on 12 July at the National Museum in Belgrade entitled "Egyptology for All: Mapping Ancient Egyptian Civilization in Serbia", with hashtag #EgyptALLogy, and an exhibition of historical documents on 19 July at the main hall of the Serbian Parliament, documenting the 110 years of relations between Egypt and Serbia, in collaboration with the National Archives of Serbia and Yugoslavia, and culminating with series of the "Blue Elephant" performances of by the modern dance ensemble of the Egyptian Opera House, including in Belgrade on July 27 at the National Theater (Opera) in commemoration of the National Day of Egypt.
A statement issued by the Egyptian Embassy in Belgrade said that the Egyptian Film Week runs from July 2 to July 6 at the Yugoslav Film Archive Museum, one of the largest cinematic archives in the world, in cooperation with the Arab Cultural Center which groups a select group of graduates of Arabic Language Section of Faculty of Philology of the University of Belgrade. The round table on Egyptology will be held at the (main) Atrium Hall of the National Museum of Serbia, with the participation of archeologists from the University of Belgrade's Department of Egyptology and the National Museum of Serbia in the first public activity of the Museum after opening last week upon completion of renovation. The Embassy commended that the exhibition of historical documents is organized udner the auspices of H.E the Speaker of Serbian National Assembly. The statement also revealed that the series "Blue Elephant" of the modern dance group of the Egyptian Opera House in Belgrade includes the 27th day of the National Theater (Opera) with the celebration of National Day, July 29 at the Children's Cultural Center in Belgrade, and then on July 31 at the Serbian National Theater in Novi Sad.
"The Egyptian Cultural Month is a unique example of successful cooperation with a select number of esteemed Serbian authorities including the National Assembly, the Serbian Ministry of Culture and Information, the Cultural secretariats of the city of Belgrade and the Provincial Government of of Vojvodina, the Serbian National Museum in Novi Sad, the Yugoslav Film Archive Archive, the Serbian National Archives and the Yugoslavian Archives, and the Center of Arabic Culture", said the Ambassador of Egypt in Belgrade. The embassy statement added that social events will be organized on the sidelines of the opening of all cultural events throughout the month attended by senior representatives of official circles, cultural and media and the diplomatic corps accredited in Belgrade.
