5 August 2007….

Upon the directives of Foreign Minister, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and within the framework of boosting the humanitarian dimension of the Egyptian foreign policy, and the belief in the necessity of supporting the African countries in facing shortage of food, the Egyptian Fund for Technical Cooperation with Africa offered food aid consisting of 250 tons of rice to Somalia, in coordination with the World Food Programme. Somalia is currently in dire need of food because of the escalating violence which has displaced large numbers of inhabitants. Egypt's aid comes within the framework of supporting the current international relief efforts to the Somali people, as well as helping the displaced and improving their living conditions in their current locations.
