For the second time within the last two months, Burundian President, Pierre Nkurunziza, attended the ceremony held by the Egyptian Embassy in Bujumbura, on 19 July, to deliver the food aids presented by the Egyptian Government to Burundi by the Egyptian Fund for Technical Cooperation with Africa. The ceremony was also attended by the Minister of National Solidarity, and a number of senior officials from the Burundian Presidency, the Foreign Ministry and the International Cooperation Ministry, and the event was covered by the media.
The Burundian President outlined in his speech that he was keen on attending in person to express his special thanks, and that of the Burundian people, to President Mubarak for his continuous support to Burundi and its people since their independence.
The Burundian President congratulated the Egyptian people and President Mubarak on the occasion of celebrating the 55th Anniversary of the 23rd July Revolution, emphasizing that the July revolution, which was sparked ten years before the independence of Burundi, was the flame of hope for the entire continent.
At the end of the ceremony, Egypt's Ambassador to Bujumbura, Mohamed Khashab, delivered a speech in which he thanked the Burundian President for his attendance, and expressed the regards of President Mubarak and the Egyptian people to him and to the Burundian people, affirming Egypt's support to the Burundian people to help them achieve stability and work on development after twelve years of civil war, by delivering food and medical aids, and by sending Egyptian experts in various fields. He also pointed out that initiating work in the Egyptian-Burundian Joint Medical Centre in Bururi governorate is evidence on the serious and fruitful cooperation between the two countries. It is also evidence on Egypt's unwavering readiness to increase cooperation in other fields, such as agriculture, irrigation, education, security, youth and sport. |
