14 June 2007….

In light of the Egyptian policy’s pursuit to enhance its relations with regional and international organizations working in fields of rescue and development, in order to assist African brethren in overcoming hardships and problems resulting from natural disasters, Secretary-General of Egyptian Fund for Technical Cooperation with Africa, Ambassador Tarek Ghoneim, represented Foreign Minister, Ahmed Aboul Gheit in the International Donors Conference for Niger, held on 12-13 June 2007, in Doha, Qatar, under the auspices of Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

In this regard, Ambassador Ghoneim stated that the Conference aims at assisting Niger to over come the chronic food shortage, which lasted for over 25 years. He also added that the OIC General Secretariat in cooperation with the UN development programme, prepared a joint working paper and study the situation with other involved parties to resolve the crisis facing Niger, through implementing an urgent and permanent solution to the crisis.

Ambassador Ghoneim pointed out that the Fund's participation stems from it being the authority assigned to offer humanitarian aids for African countries, and that Egypt's announcement for offering urgent food aids through the Conference comes within the framework of the continuous aids programme to brethren in Niger.
