The Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry stated that Foreign Minister, Ahmed Aboul Gheit received, on February 7th, 2010, the new Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Filippo Grandi and his accompanying delegation.
The Spokesman outlined that the Foreign Minister received the new UNRWA’s Official, after he had received on February 4th, 2010 John Ging, the Director of Operations in the Gaza Strip for UNRWA, , within the framework of the importance that Egypt gives to the Agency and the Palestinian refugee issue.
The Spokesman pointed out that Grandi acquainted Aboul Gheit with the current situation of the Agency and the outcomes of his first fields tour in the Gaza Strip, upon assuming his new position. Grandi confirmed that the Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip resulted in a sharp deterioration in the living and humanitarian conditions.
The Spokesman added that Aboul Gheit affirmed, during the meeting, the continuation of Egypt’s support to Palestinian refugees, and UNRWA which had a major contribution in helping the Palestinian refugees.
