Foreign Minister presents a report on his visit to Iraq to President Mubarak

The Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry stated that Foreign Minister, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, presented a report to President Mubarak on the conclusions of his visit to Iraq on the 5th of October.

The Spokesman said the Aboul Gheit's visit to Iraq came in the appropriate time in view of the latest developments witnessed by Iraq and the entire region. These developments required Egypt to act for the sake of both the Egyptian and Iraqi peoples as well as the supreme Arab interests. The Spokesman outlined that Aboul Gheit's talks in Iraq revealed that Iraq greatly welcomes the Egyptian orientation to revive the official communication, and boost bilateral relations in all fields.

The Spokesman added that both sides agreed to work immediately to prepare for a comprehensive joint committee to discuss the reinvigoration of cooperation in all fields. He highlighted that a delegation of senior Iraqi officials is expected to visit Egypt within the upcoming weeks to deliberate with their counterparts on bilateral cooperation as Iraq needs the Egyptian support and expertise in certain fields, mainly training cadres and providing technical support.

The Spokesman stated that regarding the resumption of the Egyptian Embassy's work, the Iraqi side offered several locations which could be prepared as the Embassy's headquarter. This issue will take some time, yet both sides expressed keenness on its implementation as soon as possible.

Egypt is determined on the development and enhancement of its relation with Iraq with for the best interest of both sides and the welfare of their peoples, the Spokesman mentioned. The Spokesman pointed out that Egypt will sincerely support Iraq to regain its energy after the crises it has witnessed.
