Foreign Minister, Ahmed Aboul Gheit received, on February 6th, 2010, the Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Mr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, who is currently visiting Cairo.
The Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry stated that the meeting tackled relations between Egypt and the OIC, as well as Egypt's active role within the framework of the Organization, taking into account that Egypt will preside the Islamic Summit Conference in 2011. In this regard, the Spokesman outlined that Aboul Gheit acquainted the OIC Secretary General with Egypt's efforts to prepare for the Islamic Summit Conference hosted by Egypt in 2011. Noteworthy, that such Conference will be one of the biggest and most important summits in the OIC history.
The Spokesman pointed out that Aboul Gheit also considered with Mr. Ihsanoglu the Egyptian visions regarding a number of issues related to the OIC activities and its role in the Islamic world, which included the establishment of an organization for women development within the framework of the OIC, as well as the establishment of an independent institution for human rights affiliated to the OIC.
The meeting also considered Darfur Reconstruction and Development Conference, which will be hosted by Egypt on March 21st, 2010, added the Spokesman. The OIC Secretary General praised Egypt's leadership in supporting Sudan and maintaining its unity, and stated that the OIC -as a co-organizer of the summit - will exert its utmost efforts to urge the Islamic countries to contribute at supporting and financing projects of development and reconstruction in Darfur, which will support the current political efforts aiming at reaching a permanent settlement in Darfur.
The OIC Secretary General conveyed an invitation to Aboul Gheit to attend the upcoming meeting for the OIC Foreign Ministers, which will be held in the Tajikistani capital, Dushanbe during the period from 18 to 20 May 2010, which was welcomed by Aboul Gheit.
