5 February 2010…

Foreign Minister, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said that the exchange of severe statements recently regarding possible war in the region is a matter of concern and should be stopped.

Aboul Gheit outlined, commenting on Israeli statements regarding war against Syria, that Egypt opposes the escalating Israeli harsh tone against any Arab country and its allusions to war, not only as a matter of principle, but also in light of the major negative repercussions aiming at increased tension in the region; while several regional and international powers headed by Egypt are working to regain the hope in achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region.

The Foreign Minister demanded the necessary level of  prudence and the avoidance of allusions to military confrontations, and instead transfer the attention and political energy to achieving peace and stability.
