Aboul Gheit receives the Operations Director in Gaza of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA)

The Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry stated that Foreign Minister, Ahmed Aboul Gheit received, on February 4th, 2010, the Director of Operations in Gaza for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), Mr. John Ging.

 

The Spokesman outlined that the meeting considered the humanitarian situations in Gaza Strip, whereas Mr. Ging conveyed appreciation to Egypt for its relief efforts and assistance tothe Palestinian People in the Gaza Strip. Mr. Ging affirmed the importance of the Egyptian Government role, as being the only real and effective one supporting the citizens of the Strip.

 

Mr. Ging acquainted Aboul Gheit with the deterioration witnessed by the various sectors in the Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli practices and the imposed siege, which resulted in deepening the economic crisis and its social dimensions, and in spreading radical thoughts due to the hindrance of the educational process, as Mr. Ging pointed out that the Agency can not build new schools or rebuild what was destroyed, highlighted the Spokesman.

 

The Spokesman pointed out what Mr. John Ging stated that the Agency is exerting great efforts in this regard, and is requesting the international community to shoulder its responsibility, especially regarding the education sector in the UNRWA in particular, and the humanitarian crisis in the Strip in general.

 

The Spokesman said that Aboul Gheit reaffirmed to the UN official Egypt's full commitment in supporting the Agency in order to carry out its role in assisting the Palestinian People to overcome the current crisis.
