Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry stated that the Foreign Minister, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, assigned Egyptian Ambassador to Tel Aviv to hold immediate contacts with Israeli officials. The contacts resulted in preventing the deterioration and exaggeration of the situation following the Israeli troops broke into the yard of al-Aqsa Mosque.

The Egyptian Ambassador expressed Egypt's deep annoyance to the Israeli side towards the situation imposed by the occupation authorities, calling upon the Israeli side to halt such practices in the light of the negative repercussions on the situations in the region.

In this context, the Spokesman outlined that the issue of Jerusalem occupies high priority to Egypt, referring to the importance of warning the international community against affecting the special situations of Jerusalem in general, and Al-Haram Al-Sharif in particular; thus leads to excessive tension in the situation, which requires the attention of the international community and the parties sponsor of peace efforts.
