Egypt is to participate in the 17th Meeting for the Foreign Ministers of Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization, scheduled in Ankara, on October 25th. Assistant Foreign Minister for Economic Relations and International Cooperation, Ambassador Ramzy Ezz El Din, will represent Egypt on behalf of the Foreign Minister.

The Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization was established in 1992, after the Heads of State of eleven countries overlooking the Black Sea signed the declaration of Istanbul and the Bosphorus Summit. This organization aims at activating cooperation and ensuring stability in the Balkan region through cooperation in various fields, such as agriculture, banking, communications, energy, environment protection, health and medicine, science and technology, tourism, and economic development.

Egypt enjoys the observer status at the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization. Egypt's interest in activating cooperation with the organization comes within the framework of Egypt's continuous keenness on strengthening its relations with the European countries. Moreover, the Black Sea region occupies strategic importance for Egypt, as it is the natural extension of the Mediterranean, and rated second among the world oil regions.
