The role of the Egyptian Embassy in Tokyo in mobilizing and offering assistance to Haiti

The Egyptian Embassy’s efforts and activities to offer assistance to Haiti and mobilized  the Arab, African, and the Non-Alignment Movement countries to do the same, in light of Egypt's current presidency of the Non-Alignment Movement:

 

1-      Ambassador Waleed Mahmoud Abd El Naser contacted Haiti's Charge d'Affaires directly after the earthquake took place, and conveyed his condolences and sympathy, as well as Egypt's support to Haiti in light of these tragic circumstances. The Egyptian Ambassador conveyed willingness to offer any assistance in such difficult circumstances, which were appreciated by the Haiti official.

 

2-      Ambassador Abd El Naser gave directions for the Embassy to send the statement, issued by the Egyptian Foreign Minister on Haiti earthquake as soon as it was received, to the Japanese Foreign Ministry and all the accredited foreign missions in Tokyo.

 

3-      The Egyptian Ambassador contacted the current president of Latin American Ambassadors in Tokyo (Cuba), who affirmed their demarche towards the financial and moral support to Haiti, as well as the Palestinian Ambassador, the dean of Arab diplomatic corps, Gabonese Ambassador, and the dean of African diplomatic corps, in order to urge them to launch an initiative to offer financial assistance to Haiti through the Embassy of Haiti in Tokyo. Ambassador Abd El Naser's efforts resulted in the issuance of a resolution from the African group to offer 200.000 Japanese yen from the African Ambassadors' Fund to the Embassy of Haiti in Japan. The Egyptian Ambassador also urged each African Ambassador to offer from 5.000 to 10.000 Japanese yen, as well. On the Arab side, Ambassador Abd El Naser's contacts resulted in the agreement of the Arab Ambassadors Council to offer 250.000 Japanese yen from the Council's Fund to the Haiti Embassy in Japan, and also urged each Arab Ambassador to offer from 10.000 to 20.000 Japanese yen.

 

4-      Ambassador Abd El Naser headed to the Haiti Embassy and registered his condolences on behalf of the Egyptian Government and People. The Haiti Ambassador expressed his Government sincere appreciation to all the support Egypt offered to Haiti during the current difficult circumstances it faces.
