Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs holds a periodical meeting with Asian Ambassadors in Cairo

Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs, Ambassador Ali el Hefni, met with the Asian Ambassadors accredited to Cairo in a periodical meeting on 11 September, 2006, and informed them about the Egyptian official stances regarding the various developments in the Middle East, particularly those regarding the Arab demarche within the framework of the Security Council in order to revive the peace efforts in the region. Ambassador Hefni also thanked the Asian Ambassadors for their condolences and for sharing our grief at the loss of the Arab and international writer Naguib Mahfouz and also for their condolences for the train accident in Qalub.

The Assistant Foreign Minister reviewed the current activity in the Egyptian-Asian relations and mentioned President Mubarak's anticipated visit to China at the beginning of November 2006 to participate in the African–Chinese Summit which will be held in Beijing during that period. The Ambassador also tackled the outcome of his recent Asian tour in August 2006, as he was assigned by the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, which included Brunei, Indonesia, Pakistan and the Maldives. The Ambassador also mentioned the visit paid by the Director-General of the Middle Eastern and North African Affairs Department at the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Cairo on 10th August 2006, where a new round of bilateral and political consultations was held. A new consultation round will also be held in Cairo with each of South Korea and Uzbekistan.

The Ambassador also discussed the most significant fields of scientific, technical and educational training that Egypt could offer to Asian countries through its different educational centers and institutes. He also reviewed the fields in which Egypt would like to benefit from the experience of some leading Asian Countries among which were administrative development, the electronic government, the software industry, developing the railway and river transport sectors as well as small and medium sized enterprises.
