Egypt hosts the workshop on "the Best Practices in Achieving Transparency, Probity and Combating Corruption in Asia-Middle East dialogue (AMED) countries" on December 6th and 7th, 2009. The workshop is co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of State for Administrative Development within the framework of the continuous cooperation and coordination between the two ministries.
The workshop is decided to be inaugurated by Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit and Minister of State for Administrative Development Ahmed Darwish.
Assistant Foreign Minister, Ambassador Rauf Saad, stated that the Egyptian initiative for holding a workshop reflects the great attention paid by the Egyptian government to the issues of combating corruption, as well enhancing transparency and probity, representing vital issues regionally and internationally being directly related to the matters of achieving comprehensive development, combating poverty and promoting participation amongst official and non-official institutions.
Ambassador Saad outlined that the workshop is to focus on exchanging expertise and information between the 50 AMED countries regarding a number of the main issues such as, anti-corruption, mechanisms of communication among citizens, in addition to reviewing the efforts and successful experiences of the AMED countries in the fields of supporting the institutional and legal framework to be interpreted in combating and fighting corruption policy.
Egypt hopes that participants' discussions would reach the priorities of cooperation between the two regions countries that contribute to the effectiveness of handling the matters of combating corruption, achieving transparency and probity, developing thought and institutional performance, cementing cooperation between both regions and the international community, which finally lead to serving economic and social development as well as achieving citizens’ interests.
