30 August 2006….

Egyptian Ambassador in New Delhi Dr. Khair El-Din Abdel Latif was granted the Rajiv Gandi Award, during his participation as an honor guest in the Indian National Unity Conference on 22 August 2006. The conference was held on the occasion of commemorating former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandi's 63rd anniversary, and was attended by a number of the Indian Congress leaders and a number of ministers, media, as well as civil society organizations representatives.

The Award is the second to be granted to the Egyptian Ambassador in the name of Gandi family in less than one year, after being granted the first award, on 29 December 2005.

The Rajiv Gandi Award is granted to prominent figures of significant contributions in the various fields. It is the first time that a personality is granted two awards from the Gandi Family in less than one year, which reflects India's deep appreciation for Egypt, and for the person of Dr. Abdel Latif at the end of his term of office in the Egyptian Embassy in New Delhi.
