Assistant Foreign Minister for American Affairs and the Organization of American States, Ambassador Hatem Seif El-Nasr, received the Latin American Ambassadors accredited to Cairo on 3 December 2007, within the framework of the consultation meetings held with the foreign diplomatic corps in Cairo.

During the meeting, Ambassador Seif El-Nasr tackled the regional and international recent developments of common concern, the outcomes of the last Annapolis Meeting, as well as the Egyptian diplomatic efforts to establish just peace in the Middle East in order to guarantee the rights of Palestinians and Arabs.

Moreover, both sides also reviewed the growing bilateral relations which witnessed  intensive meetings between senior officials lately, most important of which were the meetings of Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit with a number of his counterparts  on the side lines of the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly in New-York, the visit of the Investment Minister to Mexico in October 2007, the visit of the Cuban Foreign Investment Minister to Egypt in November 2007, then the tour Ambassador Seif El-Nasr conducted to Latin American Countries including Venezuela, Colombia and Peru, upon Foreign Minister’s directives.

In this context, the Latin American ambassadors conveyed their countries appreciation for the outcomes of the three tours conducted by Assistant Minister to ten Latin countries in 2007, where he delivered messages from Egyptian Foreign Minister to Foreign Ministers of these countries. He also held political consultation meetings with deputies Foreign Ministers and met with senior government officials, during which they tackled the means of supporting bilateral ties, especially in promoting the levels of trade and economic exchange, in addition to giving lectures in diplomatic academies dealt with bilateral relations and developments of international and regional issues of common concern.
