Ambassador Hatem Seif El-Nasr paid a visit to Al Salvador during the period from 8 to 11 June 2008. During the visit, which is the first by an Egyptian official after the relations were restored in September 2006, Seif El Nasr met with the Vice President and ministers of Agriculture and Tourism. He held deliberations with the Deputy Foreign Minister and delivered to her the message from Foreign Minister, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, to his Salvadorian counterpart. A memorandum of understanding was signed to establish a political consultation mechanism between the foreign officials of both countries, and four scholarships were presented to El Salvador in the International Center for Agriculture.
Ambassador Hatem Seif El-Nasr met with the Chairman and the members of the foreign relations committee in the Parliament, who highly valued Egypt's leadership of the peace demarche in the Middle East, and expressed their aspiration to increase cooperation between parliaments of both countries, they listened to an elaboration on the developments of the peace process, expressing support to the peace efforts in the region.
Means to activate economic and investment cooperation were discussed, in light of the previously signed memorandum of understanding to secure investments and benefit from the huge potentials of their economies; for Al Salvador is a gateway to Latin America, whereas Egypt is a gateway to Africa and the Arab World. It was agreed to encourage the businessmen of both countries to communicate to materialize this goal. |
