Assistant Foreign Minister for American Affairs, officially visited Costa Rica during 6-8 June ,2008 ,  where he delivered  a written message from Foreign Minister Aboul Gheit to his Costa Rican counterpart, Bruno Stagno , on  bilateral relations between Egypt and Costa Rica .

This is the first time for an Egyptian official to visit Costa Rica after diplomatic relations were restored between both countries following Costa Rica's transfer of its embassy from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv , in compliance with rules of international legitimacy.

The first round of consultations between both countries was held during the visit which also included intensive discussions of concern to both countries, particularly on the Middle East, the situation in Iraq and Lebanon in addition to the Security Council reform and enlargement, and issues currently being debated in the United Nations in light of Costa Rica's non permanent membership in the Security Council.

A joint statement was signed at the end of the visit. Two agreements were signed as well; one for political consultations, the other for cooperation between the institutes of diplomatic studies affiliated to the Foreign Ministries of both countries.
