Ambassador Naela Gabr will meet with the Ambassadors of the Asian group, on 12 March, to discuss the Egyptian viewpoint concerning the NPT Review Conference, since the first preparatory meeting for the Conference is expected to be held at the end of April 2007.

The Ambassador affirmed Egypt's interest in the NPT since it is the main pillar for non-proliferation, as well as the importance of globalizing this treaty, and this requires the accession of all countries to it, including Israel.

The meeting will also tackle the importance of implementing the Middle East Resolution for 1995, and requesting support in this regard to ensure the success of the upcoming Review Conference in  2010.

The meeting will also include emphasizing the significance of striking the appropriate balance between the bases on which the NPT was built, which include non proliferation, nuclear disarmament and the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and objecting against the double standards policy resorted to in this regard or attempting to restrict the countries' rights to utilize nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

The meeting comes within the framework of the periodical meetings the Ambassador holds with different regional groups to acquaint them with the Egyptian viewpoint concerning different international issues.
