1st June, 2008….  Director of Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Ismail Serag El Din ,  visited Dublin on 22 , 23 May 2008 upon an invitation sent to him by professor Nicholas Canny , Head of the Irish royal Academy to deliver a lecture  about the Library of Alexandria and its role in  promoting dialogue and understanding at the Academy . Dr. Serag El Din highlighted the great contributions made by the Egyptian government to establish this international cultural institution, which manifests the keenness of the Egyptian political leadership to enhance Egypt's cultural role, building upon the  contributions the Egyptian civilization has made to enrich the human civilizational heritage, and the keenness of the Egyptian government to resume this role to confront all attempts at the enlarging differences between civilizations and cultures, indicating the scientific, technological and cultural potentials of the Library of Alexandria , and the affiliated bodies as one of the most important Cultural and research institutions around the world.
