The Higher Joint Egyptian Algerian Committee held its activities on 2-3 March between the two countries, chaired by the Prime Ministers of both Countries on behalf of the President Hosni Mubarak and the Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

A high-level Egyptian delegation, which included the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, petroleum, Trade, industry, investments and communications participated in the activities of the Committee. The meetings were preceded by the preliminary meetings in Algerian 28th February between senior officials between both sides. The Egyptian side was headed by the Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab relations.

The Committee's activities tackled all aspects of bilateral relations between both Countries in the fields of petroleum, industry , investments , communications , education , culture , health , media and consular relations . A session of political consultations was also held between the Foreign Ministers of both countries .19 Legal documents were signed at the end of the Committees' activities including a document regulating Air transportation, and a Protocol for cooperation between Small and medium sized enterprises as well as a number of understanding Memoranda and executive programs for all cooperation aspects between Egypt and Algeria .

The visit, which included the meeting between Foreign Minister Aboul Gheit and the Algerian President with the Algerian President, Abdelaziz Bouteflika who held a lunch banquet on the honour of the Egyptian delegation which also included Algerian Government and legislative leaders  ,  was accorded great attention by the two sides.
