Egypt participated in the activities of the Extraordinary Meeting of the Executive Committee the Organization of Islamic Conference held in Jeddah on February the 3rd on the level of Foreign Ministers to discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian territories , especially the Israeli attack on Gaza Strip and the siege imposed by Israel on the Palestinians. Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs, head of the Egyptian delegation, delivered the Foreign Minister's speech, in which he requested Israel to shoulder its responsibility regarding the serious humanitarian situation suffered by the Palestinians and referred to President Mubarak's decision to grant the Palestinians access through the crossing borders to procure their needs. The speech urged the relevant parties to quickly resume activating the international agreed upon arrangements to ensure the re-operation of the crossing points.
A final statement was issued by the meeting, which denounced the Israeli aggression and practices against the Palestinian people, expressing disappointment regarding the failure of the Security Council to shoulder its responsibility towards the Humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The meeting expressed appreciation and support for Egypt's efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinians and its endorsement to President Mubarak's call for the Palestinian factions to quickly put an end to their disagreements. |
