Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs, Ambassador Dr. Mohamed Badr El-Din, received on June the 5th the Polish Under-Secretary of State Ryszard Schnepf, during his tour in the Middle East. The tour included a regional meeting in Cairo for the Polish Ambassadors in the Middle East and North Africa. Both sides affirmed the profound relations between their countries throughout the last decades, and the similarity in some aspects of their experiences. The Polish Official highly valued Egypt's role and importance in the region, affirming keenness to hold continuous consultations with it. He also pointed to President Mubarak's visit to Poland at the beginning of 2008, and its fruitful consequences.
The Palestinian issue took significant part of the deliberations, where views were exchanged. Ambassador Badr El-Din presented Egypt's assessment to the peace process and its main obstacles and the Egyptian efforts exerted to meet the fair demands of the Palestinian people. Badr El-Din affirmed that Egypt's solid stance is to use every chance for peace. Mr. Schnepf, on his part, assessed the situation in Palestine according to the visit he had paid to Ramullah before his arrival to Cairo.
As concerns Iraq, the Polish Under-Secretary of State highlighted that the Polish troops will pull out from Iraq next October. Economic existence will substitute military existence through development projects. Also deliberated were a number of issues of common concern on both Arab and Middle East arenas. Both sides affirmed their intention to carry on consultations on the various issues on regular and periodic bases. |
