11 April 2007….

Assistant Minister for European Affairs, Ambassador Fatma El-Zahraa Etman, held a meeting on 11 April with German Assistant Foreign Minister for Middle East Affairs, Horst Freitag, during his visit to Cairo on 10 and 11 April to attend the International Quartet Committee concerned with the Middle East Peace Process, scheduled to be held late this month. Germany is currently  presiding the European Union.

Mr. Freitag affirmed the EU's keenness on identifying Egypt's assessment of the current situation in the Middle East, particularly at this critical phase through which the peace process is passing, especially after the positive outcomes of the last Arab Summit in Riyadh which can be invested to end the current stagnation in the Peace Process, highlighting Egypt's role in this respect. Egypt has called for holding the Arab Initiative Follow-up Committee in Cairo on 18 April on the ministerial level.

The meeting also tackled means of supporting the Palestinian national unity government, and the European stance from it, as well as the developments  in Lebanon.
