Coordination meeting for Ministers of Communication of the Arab Countries Members to the Barcelona Process

Assistant Foreign Minister for European Affairs, Ambassador Fatma El Zahraa Etman participated in the coordination meeting for Arab Ministers of Communication for member countries of the Barcelona Process, within the framework of the preparation for the Second Euro Mediterranean conference of Ministers of communication, which will be hosted by Egypt in the second half of 2007, under the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union.

Egyptian Minister of Communications, Tarek Kamel called for holding this meeting on the sidelines of the activities of the Arab Ministers of Communications hosted by Egypt within the framework of the Arab League in 9th - 10th January .

The meeting discussed the goals that are desired to be achieved in the above mentioned conference, namely bridging the digital gap between both shores of the Mediterranean, in order to confirm the Arab contribution and the distinctive addition which it can contribute in creating an integrated Euro Mediterranean system in the field of communications and information technology.

The importance of Arab coordination and encouraging taking initiatives in a manner heedful of Arab priorities were also stressed during the meeting. It was also agreed that Egypt, being the coordinator of the Arab Group within the framework of the Barcelona process, would prepare the final draft document to be to be discussed on the Arab level before presenting it to the European side.
