Within the framework of the current friendly profound relations between Egypt and Sudan, a medical convoy affiliated to the Egyptian Ministry of Health headed on May 3rd to North Darfur in a mission lasts for about a month. The convoy contains eight doctors in all specializations (Surgery - Pediatrics - Ophthalmia - Internal Disease - Orthopedics - Otolaryngology - Obstetrics and Gynaecology). The Egyptian Council for African Affairs will dispatch one of the doctors to join the convoy and assist in its mission.
A diplomatic source stated that within the frame of his tackle of the Egyptian assistances to Sudan during the past period, the Ministry of Health dispatched large amounts of medicines a week ago to assist Darfur citizens, and the Ministry of Defense handled delivering the medicines on one of its airplanes. The diplomatic source added that within the framework of Egypt's abidance by it commitments during the conference of Arab support for Darfur, held in Khartoum, in October 2007, Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit agreed that the Egyptian Fund for Technical Cooperation with Africa will offer humanitarian assistances to Darfur. Hence, two shipments of such assistances were already sent.
Within the same context, the diplomatic source pointed out the recent announcement of the Electricity and Energy Minister, Hassan Younis regarding the launching of the electricity network and lighting the city of Wāw on May 1st 2008. The project serves the needs of about 15 thousand families, in addition to lighting 80 schools, 8 hospitals, as well as several utilities in Wāw. This project comes within the framework of the grant offered by Egypt in the field of electricity within the frame of its assistance to rehabilitate South Sudan. The electricity projects also include lighting 3 other cities in South Sudan, which are Bor, Rumbek and Yambio. |
