1 November,2007….

The Egyptian ambassador to Monrovia delivered a food assistance package, consisting of 155 tons of rice, from the Egyptian government to the Liberian people, at the Liberian Ministry of Trade and industry. The Ceremony was attended the Liberian Minister of Trade and industry along with representatives from different ministers and local media.

The Egyptian government, represented by the Egyptian Fund for Technical Cooperation with Africa, affiliated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, granted the food assistance package to help the Liberian government overcome the food shortage crises it faces and contribute to improving the living standards of the Liberian citizen. The package is a resumption of Egyptian efforts to cater for the needs of the Liberian people.

Many experts in various medical and economic fields were also dispatched, within the framework of the aid package, to provide medicines and medical supplies, and organize training sessions for different Liberian cadres under the auspices of the EFTCA, and in collaboration with various Egyptian organization and ministries.

The Liberian Minister of Trade and industry expressed her profound gratitude to president and people of Egypt for this noble gesture, which will contribute largely in promoting the capabilities of the government to fulfill its priorities, foremost of which is providing food to citizens, particularly that the Agricultural sector has suffered the emigration of farmers from rural areas to towns during the civil war, which have lead the country to rely primarily on importing food supplies.
