Foreign Ministry spokesman stated that Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs and African Union Affairs, Ambassador Shamel Nasser is currently on an official visit to Abidjan on 1, 2 November 2007, within the framework of a tour to several African countries from 26 October to 4 November. The tour included Ghana from 26-31 October 2007, where the Ambassador participated in the activities of the Ministerial committee which worked on assessing the recommendations of establishing an AU government , as well as the joint TROIKA EU /Africa Ministerial meeting. The Assistant Foreign Minister will also head for Togo after his bilateral visit to Cote d'Ivoire.
The Spokesman added that Ambassador Nasser is to hold talks with Ivorian officials to explore means of promoting bilateral cooperation between both countries , and enhance technical and developmental cooperation between Egypt and Cote d'Ivoire. The two officials will also consult and coordinate stances on several issues of mutual concern regionally and internationally , particularly with regards to conflict zones in Africa, in addition to means of developing Africa's relations with developed and developing countries.
They also tackled Egypt's contribution in peacekeeping operations whether within the framework of the UN and the AU , and the special preparations regarding Egypt's hosting of the preparatory Ministerial conference of the Europe/Africa summit in Sharm El Sheikh on 4,5 December 2007.
The Press spokesman also indicated that the meeting will also tackle the domestic situation in Coted'Ivoire , the special developments regarding the implementation of the Ouagadougou Peace Agreement , between the government and the new "Northern Forces movement" that aims at running Presidential elections during the first quarter of 2008 . Egypt's support for Ivorian national efforts , and holding the postponed presidential elections from 2005 will be tackled as well. |
