Foreign Minister meets with Austrian Chancellor

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid stated that Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met  Friday, October 14 with Austrian Chancellor  Mr. Christian Kern, in the framework of the Foreign Minister's visit to the Austrian capital Vienna, where he welcomed the boost in bilateral relations between both countries,following the meeting that took place between the President of the Republic and the Austrian chancellor in New York on September 19, 2016 on the sidelines of the 71st round of the General Assembly of the United Nations and following the United Nations summit on refugees and migrants, and the positive results reached in the meeting. The Foreign Minister presented to the Austrian Chancellor a letter from the President of the Republic, which welcomes the Austrian Chancellor's invitation to the President to visit  Austria, and includes as well an invitation to the Austrian Chancellor to visit Cairo.

The Austrian Chancellor was keen to gain insight on the issue of refugees and migrants in light of the summit organized by the Austrian Chancellery on immigrants in Europe in Vienna in September 2016, as the Foreign Minister gave a detailed explanation about the national efforts to combat illegal immigration in light of the importance of this issue to the Austrian side and its repercussions for the entire European continent.

Shoukry outlined  the latest developments in Egypt, particularly the Egyptian government's efforts to ensure political stability and security, strengthening democratic institutions, as well as the economy, in light of the near completion of the loan agreement with the International Monetary Fund.
The Foreign Minister also discussed Egypt's efforts to deal with the major issues in the region and the world, topped by anti-terrorism efforts in light of Egypt's membership in the UN Security Council and its presidency of the Counter-Terrorism Committee of the United Nations, as well as the fight against extremism and the efforts by Egypt to spread Islamic values of moderation. Shoukry also stressed Egypt's continued desire to intensify and strengthen cooperation with Austria in various fields, especially in the economic field and to promote trade, in such a way that elevates relations between the two countries especially after the opening of the Egyptian Austrian business forum during the current visit
The spokesperson added that the Austrian Chancellor was keen to gain insight on Egypt's positions on major regional issues, particularly the situation in Syria and Libya, as well as Egyptian efforts to revive negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.
