Bahraini Crown Prince, Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, received Egyptian Foreign Minister, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, during the latter's visit to Bahrain, to head the Egyptian Delegation in the activities of the sixth session of the Egyptian Bahraini joint high committee which will be headed by the Foreign Ministers of both countries.
During his visit, the Foreign Minister also met with Bahraini Prime Minister, Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman al Khalifa, and held discussions with Bahraini Foreign Minister, Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, which focused on developments in the Gulf, the Iranian nuclear file, and regional files of common concern, especially development in Iraq and their effects on the Gulf region.
The work of the joint committee has resulted in signing several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) and Executive Programs to enhance bilateral relations; the most important of which was the MOU between the Ministries of Petroleum in Egypt and Bahrain, the MOU for cooperation between both countries in the field of the environment, the executive programs to intensify cooperation in the fields of tourism and sport as well as the cooperation protocol in the field of air transportation.
The Foreign Minister's visit to Bahrain is among several recent demarches aiming at intensifying cooperation relations and political coordination with the Arab countries, particularly in a time where regional developments require activating joint Arab action to face the challenges which have been highlighted during the last Arab Summit.
