Foreign Minister Meets with European Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid said Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held a meeting on Wednesday, October 12, with the European Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn. The two discussed Egypt's relations with the European Union, and ways to strengthen the common interests between Egypt and the EU in various political and economic fields, as well as means of coordination on the issue of illegal immigration.
The spokesperson said the meeting touched on important regional issues, especially the situation in Syria, Libya, Yemen and Iraq, whereby the Foreign Minister stressed Egypt's stance towards the Syrian issue, especially the humanitarian dimension of the conflict and Egypt's striving to ensure access of humanitarian assistance to civilians. The Foreign Minister also discussed Egyptian efforts to revive negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides. The Foreign Minister also reviewed internal developments in Egypt during the recent period, and what has been done in terms of building democratic institutions, as well as the economic situation in light of the expected ireform program between Egypt and the International Monetary Fund.
