Foreign Minister receives his Yemeni counterpart
Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received on Thursday, December 22, 2016 the Yemeni Foreign Minister Abdul-Malik Al-Mikhlafi.
The Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Counselor Ahmed Abu Zeid, stated that the Yemeni Minister asked at the beginning of the meeting, to convey greetings of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, to President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, emphasizing in this regard the Egyptian pivotal role and major national stature in the Arab region, and that it will always remain the main pillar of the region's security and stability. He added that Al-Mikhlafi briefed the Foreign Minister on the most prominent developments in the Yemeni crisis politically, economically and security-wise, and praised in this regard Egypt's constant stance in support of legitimacy in Yemen at the regional and international levels, thus reflecting a deep understanding of the situation in Yemen.
For his part, Shoukry affirmed the importance of this visit as Yemen and the entire region witness accelerated developments and events, while indicating that Egypt is closely following all developments of the situation in Yemen at the various levels, stressing its commitment to support all efforts aiming to reach a political settlement of the Yemeni crisis according to the relevant Security Council resolutions, the outputs of the national dialogue, and the Gulf initiative, so as to achieve the objectives and aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people.
On the other hand, Abu Zeid indicated that the Yemeni Minister informed Shoukry about the outcome of the Quartet's last meeting held in Riyadh and its resulting amendments to the Roadmap set recently by the US Secretary of State, on which the Yemeni government had expressed reservations, as well as the arrangements to hold the meeting of The De-escalation and Coordination Committee scheduled in Jordan in the coming period with the participation of the Yemeni parties. Al-Mikhlafi affirmed the Yemeni government's eagerness to keep Egypt informed about all developments of the Yemeni file, as it has confidence in Egypt's role in support of Yemen, particularly via its current membership of the Security Council and its deep understanding of the situation in Yemen.
The Spokesperson added that Minister Shoukry briefed the Yemeni Minister on the results of his contacts and meetings during his recent visit to Washington, as they both exchanged views about relations with the new American administration. Foreign Minister also stressed at the end of the meeting that Egypt will pursue its support for Yemen in the light of the deep historical relations bonding the two brotherly countries.
