1.    Al-Sisi pays brief visit to Saudi Arabia. (Saudi News Agency)

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has paid a short visit Saturday to Saudi Arabia, coming in the wake of a major reshuffle in the kingdom’s royal court.

The visit, that lasted less than 90 minutes, comes in the framework of continuous coordination and consulting between the two countries, Egypt’s ambassador to Riyadh Afify Abdel Wahab told state media.

Crown Prince Mohamed bin Nayef and Deputy Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman welcomed Al-Sisi upon his arrival.

Al-Sisi congratulated King Salman bin Abdul Aziz for the appointment of bin Nayef and bin Salman, as the two leaders discussed regional and international developments, Saudi state news agency reported.

Al-Sisi was accompanied by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Head of General Intelligence Service (GIS) Khaled Fawzy, Head of the President’s Office Abbas Kamel, and ambassador Abdel Wahab.

Key regional issues including the continuing Yemen crisis figured prominently during talks between Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sissi here on Saturday.

“The visit of El-Sissi, lasting less than two hours, focused on the restive regional scene, mainly Yemen, Syria and Iraq,” said Affifi Ahmed Abdelwahab, Egyptian ambassador to the Kingdom.

Abdelwahab said that the consultations between King Salman and El-Sissi were held within the framework of regular coordination between the two countries, especially at this sensitive time when the Arab world is facing several challenges.

“Events in Yemen, Syria and Iraq, as well as elsewhere in the region require more frequent consultations,” the envoy added.

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry telephoned Adel al Jubair, his Saudi counterpart, to congratulate him on assuming the post.

Shoukry said he is looking forward to cooperating and consulting with Jubair to serve the best interests of both countries, spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry Badr Abdel Ati said.

Shoukry also praised the role played by former Saudi foreign minister Prince Saud al Faisal for about 40 years, during which he was in charge of Saudi Arabia's international affairs, Abdel Ati added.
