Egypt in Foreign Media:


1.     Sisi meets US Congress delegation. (Middle East News Agency)

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi received a US Congress delegation under House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, said Presidential Spokesman Alaa Youssef.

The meeting was also attended by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Intelligence Chief Khalid Fawzy and US Ambassador in Cairo Stephen Beecroft.

During the meeting, Sisi asserted that the delegation's visit reflects the deep-rooted strategic relationship between the two countries.

Sisi also asserted Egypt's keenness on fostering bilateral ties with the US.

For his part, Nunes said that a number of congressmen understand now Egypt's viewpoint and want to foster mutual relations and help Cairo to surpass challenges facing it in order to restore security and stability in the Middle East.

Sisi asserted the importance of friendly countries, topped by US, in supporting Egypt in political and economic fields.

The meeting also tackled the Libyan crisis and terrorism phenomenon in the region.



2.     Shoukry, German FM confer on bilateral ties, regional issues, terrorism. (Euronews)

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry conferred with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier on means to boost bilateral ties and a number of regional and international issues along with combating terrorism.

They talked about bilateral ties in the different political, economic, trade, investment and cultural fields for the interest of both countries, especially after the success of Sharm El-Sheikh economic conference, Spokesman of Foreign Ministry Badr Abdel Aati said.

Shoukry briefed his German counterpart on the situation in the Middle East in light of the current developments.

Also, the two ministers discussed the situation in Libya in light of the current political and security developments and the efforts of Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Bernardino León to reach a political solution between the Libyan parties.

Shoukry said that Egypt has warned earlier that the terror in Libya should be strictly handled, especially after the brutal beheading of Egyptian innocent people there.



3.     Egypt: German FM's Cairo Visit Evidence of Good Ties With Egypt – Diplomat. (World Bulletin)

Egypt's Ambassador to Germany Mohamed Hegazy asserted on Friday that the expected visit of German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Egypt reflects the positive developments in the two countries' relations.

Steinmeier's visit comes after German Chancellor Angela Merkel has invited Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to visit Germany, which was conveyed during the Egypt Economic Development Conference in March by her adviser.

Hegazy told MENA that the aim of the German foreign minister's visit is to complete preparations for holding the Egyptian-German summit slated to be held in a later date in Berlin.

German officials have confidence in the Egyptian leadership and government, considering that Egypt is the basis of stability in the region, he added.



4.     Egypt’s FM to visit Eritrea and South Sudan. (All Africa)

Egypt’s foreign ministry announced that Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will visit South Sudan on Wednesday, followed by a visit to Eritrea, according to the English-language news outlet AhramOnline.

The minister will discuss with his counterparts questions of terrorism, the situation in South Sudan, and the Horn of Africa region in terms of development and stability issues.

Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki visited Egypt in September 2014.

Also, Shoukry and Eritrean Foreign Minister Othman Saleh Mohamed met in September 2014 at the United Nations, and, again, in March at Egypt’s economic conference at Sharm.

Cairo was the second country following Sudan to recognize South Sudan after it gained independence from its northern neighbor in 2011.
