1- IPI delegation makes emergency visit to Cairo. (Daily News Egypt)
A high-level delegation from the International Press Institute (IPI) met yesterday in Cairo with Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy to discuss the media climate in Egypt, including the protection of journalists.
The meeting capped two days of fact-finding discussions with Egyptian lawyers, human rights groups and journalists.
The foreign minister and the delegation agreed on the need for implementation of press guarantees contained in Egypt’s newly approved constitution, including provisions that safeguard press freedom, such as articles on freedom of publication and the independence of the news media. The new fundamental law also includes protections against censorship, confiscation, suspension and closure of news media.
2- Egypt’s Juhayna to invest $58m in 2014. (Daily News Egypt)
Egypt’s Juhayna Food Industries , one of the country’s largest dairy product and juice makers, plans to invest EGO 400m ($57.5m) in 2014, the firm said in a statement on Wednesday.
The investments will include expanding production capacity in the juice business as well as starting production at a yoghurt factory and setting up and improving logistical sales points and branches, it said.In December, Juhayna secured an EGP 500m loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and said it would use the money to finance an expansion of its dairy and juice factories, to produce new products and upgrade its distribution network.
