Activities of the Parliamentary Department and Shura Council during February 2013
1-Director of the Education and Scientific Research Committee at the Shura Council Dr. Mohamed Khashaba, Undersecretary of Human Rights Committee at the Shura Council Dr. Ezz El-Din El-Komy received Mrs. Maria ……. member of the Committee of Culture, Education and Science at the Lithuanian parliament. The meeting involved Lithuania's Ambassador in Cairo, and Counsellor Ahmed El-Husseiny from the parliamentary department at the Foreign Ministry
2-The Lithuanian parliament was keen during two meetings to acquaint with the Parliament’s efforts in the fields of human rights, women's welfare, education and others. The dialogue addressed the ways and means of promoting bilateral cooperation and activating the economic, scientific and technical cooperation agreement signed between the two countries in 1996, and the issue of teaching the Arabic language at Lithuanian universities.
3-On 3rd February, 2013, Assistant Foreign Minister, Director of Sudanese Affairs Department participated in the meeting of the African Affairs Shura Council Committee held to discuss the President's decree No. 32/2013, on approving the protocol on establishing the Egyptian Cultural Office in Juba, in South Sudan. The Assistant Minister reviewed the Egyptian efforts to promoting cooperation with South Sudan, which worked out by the Egyptian Prime Minister's visit to Juba, the capital of South Sudan in March 2011, in addition to participating in the 20th session of the Council, held on 11.02.2013 to discuss the report of the African Affairs committee in this regard.
4-The Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated in the meeting of the financial and economic affairs committee held at the headquarters of the Shura Council Committee on 02.04.2013 to discuss the President's decree No. 28/2013 on approving an umbrella agreement, signed in Cairo on 07.11.2012,, between the Egyptian government, the European Union and the European Investment Bank on a programme of community development to contribute to a financing package. Deputy Assistant Minister for the European Union and Western Europe Affairs participated as well in the 19th Shura Council Plenary Meeting held on 10.2.2013 to discuss the report of the committee in this regard where the deliberations resulted in approving the agreement.
5-The Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated in the financial and economic affairs committee meeting to discuss the President's decree No. 31, 2013, on approving the decision of the Board of Governors of the African Development Fund affiliate to the African Development Bank Group on the Twelfth General renewal of the Fund’s resources. The meeting was held at the headquarters of the Committee at the Shura Council on 4/2/2013. Deputy Assistant Minister for International Economic Relations participated in the 19th plenary meeting of the Shura Council, which discussed the committee report in this regard and resulted in approving the presidential decree.
6-The Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated in the joint meeting of the Committees on Housing and Urban Communities and the Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs to discuss the Presidential Decree No. 47, 2013, on approving a loan agreement between the Egyptian Government and the Saudi Fund for Development on the project of supplying Nasr City with drinking water signed in Cairo on 03/12/2012, held at the Shura Council on 06.02.2013, and concluded in adopting the resolution.
7-Assistant Foreign Minister for Parliamentary Affairs participated in the joint meeting of the constitutional and legislative affairs committee and the Office of the Financial and Economic Affairs committee to discuss the draft governmental law on the assets recovery committee held at the Shura Council on 17/2/2013 and concluded in approving, in principle, on the continuation of discussions on its provisions and articles in a coming meeting on 25/2/2013.
8-President of the Shura Council, Dr.Ahmed Fahmy, in coordination with the Foreign Ministry (the Parliamentary Department) and Egyptian missions abroad is eager to on strengthening relations with his counterparts in the parliamentary councils in friendly countries. In this context, he addressed condolences to the Mauritanian House for the death of the President of the Mauritanian Senate, congratulated the Algerian President on his re-election, the Speaker of Singapore Parliament on his re-election, the Speaker of Jordanian Parliament on the occasion of his election following the legislative elections that took place in Jordan recently.
